Found Poem
Searching for Hope
Closure is what we want
Explanations are what we need
Lies were told
We still don’t know why.
Separated from their families:
They lost everything.
I clutched my diamonds,
In one hand, swallowing them each day.
I prayed to wake up at home,
In my warm bed.
Mom making breakfast,
Edith dancing everywhere
Seeing the shaved head.
And striped pajamas that my father wore
Made me want to give up right there,
Especially when his tear rolled down his cheek.
Anja got me through the day.
The bread was no good,
And it was hard to get.
And constant hiding took its toll.
I had nobody.
I was all alone,
Surrounded by thousands of people,
In these barracks.
